Solaris empowers you to go beyond simple on/off automation by offering precise control over how your monitor's brightness responds to the natural light cycle. The Interactive Brightness Curves feature allows you to visualize, customize, and fine-tune your monitor's luminosity profile throughout the day, ensuring a comfortable and visually pleasing experience tailored to your preferences.
Understanding the Brightness Curve Graph
The core of this feature is an intuitive graph that illustrates the relationship between the sun's position and your monitor's brightness.
- X-axis (Solar Elevation): Represents the sun's angle relative to your horizon, ranging from -90° (deep night) to +90° (solar zenith). This axis drives the brightness adjustments.
- Y-axis (Brightness %): Shows the corresponding brightness level applied to your monitor, from 0% (off/minimum) to 100% (maximum).
- The Curve: This line depicts your chosen brightness profile. As the sun's elevation changes throughout the day, Solaris traces this curve to determine the ideal brightness level for your display.
All adjustments made on this graph provide a real-time preview, instantly showing how your curve changes and what the current brightness level would be at the sun's current position.
Customizing with Bezier Curves
Solaris utilizes Bezier Curves to give you unparalleled flexibility in shaping your brightness profile.
- Drag Control Points: The curve is defined by a series of draggable control points. Simply click and drag these points to adjust the curve's shape.
- Dragging a point upwards increases brightness for that solar elevation range.
- Dragging a point downwards decreases brightness.
- Adjusting the horizontal position of points can shift when brightness transitions occur.
- Fine-Tune Transitions: By manipulating the curve, you can create smooth, gradual transitions, define sharp drops or rises, or maintain specific brightness levels for extended periods, such as during twilight hours or at peak daylight.
- Reset Curve: If you wish to discard your custom changes and return to the default "Balanced" curve, click the
Reset Curvebutton.
Utilizing Presets
To quickly switch between common brightness profiles or to use a starting point for your custom curve, Solaris provides several built-in presets:
- Bright: Maintains a higher average brightness throughout the day, suitable for well-lit environments or users who prefer a consistently vibrant display.
- Balanced: The default, recommended profile, offering a smooth and comfortable transition from low night-time brightness to higher daytime levels, closely mirroring natural light.
- Soft: Provides a gentler, generally lower brightness profile, ideal for sensitive eyes, dim environments, or users who prefer a less intense display.
- Custom: This preset is automatically selected when you modify any of the other presets or manually adjust the Bezier curve. It saves your unique configuration.
To activate a preset, simply click on its corresponding button. If you then modify the curve, the selection will automatically switch to Custom.
By leveraging interactive curves and presets, Solaris allows you to create a display experience that perfectly aligns with your personal comfort and the demands of your environment, all synchronized seamlessly with the sun's natural rhythm.
