This Privacy Policy describes how Solaris ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our desktop application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency in our data practices.

1. Information We Collect
Solaris is designed to operate with a strong emphasis on local data processing. We only collect information essential for the App's functionality, as detailed below:
A. Google Fit Data
Solaris requests access to your Google Fit data to provide personalized health and wellness insights tailored to your unique sleep patterns. Specifically, with your explicit consent, we access:
- Sleep Data: Includes sleep duration, start and end times, and sleep sessions.
We access this data using the Google Fit API. All analysis of this data is performed locally on your device, and this information is never transmitted to our servers.
B. Location Data
To accurately calculate sunrise, sunset, solar noon, and twilight phases for your specific geographic location and timezone, the App may collect your approximate or precise location data. This data is used strictly locally on your device to:
- Adjust monitor settings based on real-time solar position.
- Optionally fetch current weather data if you enable related features within the App.
Solaris does not transmit your location data to any external servers.
C. Device Information
We may collect non-personal technical information about your device, such as your operating system version and internet connectivity status, to ensure the App functions correctly and to assist with troubleshooting technical issues. This information is processed locally and is not linked to your identity.
D. Local Application Monitoring (for Smart Game Mode)
To enable the "Smart Game Mode" feature, Solaris locally monitors the names of actively running applications on your device. This is done to detect when you are running a game or a specified application (as defined in your Whitelist/Blacklist settings) and temporarily pause brightness adjustments, preventing distractions.
Important: This monitoring is performed entirely on your local machine. The names of your running applications or any associated usage data are never transmitted to us or any third parties.
E. Monitor Hardware Information
Solaris enumerates your connected display monitors and may read their Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) from your system registry to retrieve their friendly names (e.g., 'Dell U2721DE'). This information is used solely to identify your monitors within the application, allowing you to control them individually, and is processed only on your local device. This data is not transmitted externally.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected solely for the purposes of providing and improving the core functionality of the Solaris application, as described below:
- Google Fit Sleep Data: We access and analyze your historical and recent sleep session data locally on your device. This is essential for constructing an accurate, dynamic sleep schedule (regime) that personalizes the App’s core functionality: the automated synchronization of your monitor’s brightness and color temperature with your physiological circadian rhythm. By understanding your actual sleep-wake patterns, Solaris provides a more effective and comfortable computing experience.
- Location Data: Your location data is used locally to perform precise solar calculations (sunrise, sunset, solar noon, twilight) specific to your current position. This enables Solaris to adjust your monitor's brightness and color temperature in alignment with natural daylight cycles. If enabled, it is also used locally to fetch current weather conditions to inform potential future features or display relevant ambient information.
- Device Information: This technical data helps us ensure the App operates stably and compatibly with your system, and aids in diagnosing any functional issues you might encounter. It is used for operational support and internal debugging.
- Local Application Monitoring: Information about running applications is used exclusively on your device to identify games or other user-specified applications. This allows Solaris to automatically pause circadian adjustments during gaming or other critical tasks, ensuring an uninterrupted experience.
- Monitor Hardware Information: The names and capabilities of your monitors are read locally to enable Solaris to display a list of your connected displays and apply brightness and color temperature adjustments via DDC/CI (Display Data Channel / Command Interface) or other supported APIs.
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
Solaris is designed to perform its core functions without transmitting any personal data to external servers or third parties. We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties. All processing of sensitive data, such as Google Fit sleep data, location data, and running application names, occurs entirely on your local device.
4. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Since Solaris primarily processes data locally, the security of your data largely depends on the security of your own device.
5. Data Retention
Most data collected by Solaris, such as monitor settings, application exclusion lists, and brightness curves, is stored locally on your device for the functionality of the App. Google Fit sleep data is accessed on-demand and processed locally; we do not retain extensive historical Google Fit data on our own. Location data is ephemeral or stored locally as needed for calculations. You are in control of this locally stored data.
6. Your Choices
You have control over the information Solaris accesses:
- Google Fit Integration: You can revoke Solaris's access to your Google Fit data at any time through your Google Account settings. If you do so, certain personalized circadian rhythm features that rely on sleep data may be limited or unavailable.
- Location Services: You can manage location permissions for Solaris through your operating system settings. Disabling location services will prevent the App from accurately calculating solar positions, impacting its core functionality.
- Smart Game Mode: You can customize or disable the Smart Game Mode feature within the App's settings, controlling which applications Solaris monitors locally.
- Uninstalling the App: Deleting the Solaris application will remove all locally stored settings and data associated with the App.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
